Because of earth movement, construction flaws, and/or improper site work and foundation placement, buildings will sometimes sink in one area. These depressions can cause a variety of problems, such as uneven floors, drywall cracks, and broken tiles. Once a structural engineer has determined what needs to be done to correct the problem, we’re often called in for our expertise in shoring and leveling. Typically, this process involves jacking up the building under the floor joists in order for the void to be filled.

Common ways to fill the void include adding floor plates, steel beams, concrete, and/or wood in the following manners:

• adding a wood or metal shimmy
• placing additional beams
• installing more framing to shore up the building
• pouring extra foundation to permanently lift up the building

Throughout the entire shoring and leveling process, we work closely with the structural engineers who have calculated weights, stress loads, and other factors to devise the best solution for stabilizing the building.
